Pet King Brands (manufacturer of this product) has explained in an email to me that it is the ALOE VERA GEL, that is used.The toxic component of the Aloe Vera plant is in the lining of the leaf, which is absent here. I feel that it is important to clarify this for you, as for my beloved dogs. I personally am grateful that there is such a product to care for my girls. The review mentioning how aloe is toxic to cats made me look up "Is aloe gel toxic to dogs?" and I found the following document:"Saponins According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the aloe vera plant is toxic to dogs. The principal components are from a class of chemicals called saponins. Saponins have a foaming characteristic and are present in the aloe vera plant. Signs of Saponin Poisoning Typical signs of poisoning include vomiting and diarrhea. If you suspect your dog has ingested aloe vera, call your veterinarian immediately. Topical Uses While most vets agree aloe should not be ingested by your dog, it seems to be OK to use it in a topical manner. The gel can be used on minor cuts and scrapes.
